The Dermatology Academic Administrator’s Group (DAAG) was formed when we were invited in 1996 by the Association of Professors of Dermatology (APD) to attend their annual meeting in Chicago. The first DAAG meeting was held in 1996 and has continued annually. In 2001, we expanded from a half-day meeting to a full day on the day preceding the APD meeting.

We are not a formal organization so we do not have a charter, officers, or pay dues. Members volunteer to serve in various roles such as DAAG Coordinator, Program Chair, Communications Chair, Listserve Chair, Membership/Historian Chair and Social Chair.

The DAAG mission is to provide academic administrators with opportunities for education, professional growth and networking while advocating responsible business offices in support of our Chairs in developing our departments and divisions as centers of excellence in education, research and patient care.

All dermatology administrators who work for a chair in a university department, division or unit are welcome to participate as DAAG members and are invited to attend the DAAG meeting held on the day prior to the APD meeting in Chicago as well as attend the APD annual meeting.

DAAG members communicate throughout the year through a listserve discussion group set up by Phil Yamahiro at Stanford. If you have dermatology business questions you would like to ask DAAG members the listserve address is: dermadmin@lists.stanford.edu. If you want to be added to the listserve please contact Phil Yamahiro at yamahiro@stanford.edu.

DAAG accomplishments include the establishment of a formal annual meeting, increase in membership participation from 14 participants in 1996 to 26 in 2003, creation of a newsletter, launch of a listserve for group discussions, presentations from guest speakers at annual DAAG meetings, surveys and survey results on miscellaneous topics.

DAAG goals are to increase member participation at the annual meeting, increase physician participation, “formalize” DAAG to assist in interfacing with other organizations and establish a process to collect dues to subsidize the annual meeting.
